Abby Chant Intermediate Bearded Iris
Ray's Total Recall bearded iris
Spring has arrived! The bearded iris are really starting to bloom. Here are a couple of photos of current blooms. Total Recall is a tall yellow with a huge flower. This iris is blooming in New Braunfels. Abby Chant is another yellow and white bearded iris that is classified as an Intermediate Tall Bearded, 27 – 36 inches tall. What is neat about Abby Chant is that the beard is purple. Quite a contrast from the yellow and white standards and falls. Abby Chant is blooming in Floresville. My dark purples have been blooming for the last couple of weeks.
In addition my dutch iris are beginning to bloom. Dutch iris are what you usually see in the floral shops. I particularily like the blues and I have Blue Magic in my garden. Dutch iris are different from bearded iris in several ways, first they are beardless, meaning that they don’t have the fuzzy raised “beard” that carries the pollen. Secondly they are bulbs and not rhizomes. Thirdly their flowers are smaller, but not necessarily less showy. All the iris are great in floral arrangements. You should try growing some of each type in your garden.
